Jono David’s ‘never-ending Jewish photo tour’ led him to document a diverse collection of the African continent’s often-overlooked Jewish communities, both new and old
Jono David
Jono David is an independent American-British photographer specializing in the documentation of Jewish life and culture. Since his first “Jewish photo tour” in February 1998, he has photographed Jewish people and heritage sites in 116 countries. His work has been exhibited at several museums including the Beit Hatfutsot Museum (the Museum of the Jewish People), Tel Aviv, Israel; the Irish Jewish Museum, Dublin, Ireland; the Crossroads of Civilizations Museum, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Freundeskreis Willy Brandt Haus, Berlin, Germany; and all three of South Africa’s Holocaust & Genocide Centres in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, as well as a number of lesser-known galleries in the United States, England, and Japan. Based in Tokyo, Jono lectures in English at several universities.
